Bikram Yoga

This class is taught by:

Ryan Beck

Ryan began his Bikram yoga practice here in San Luis Obispo; hearing about it from friends he decided to check it out for himself. He loved the way it opened and loosened up his body – from years of dancing he had become tight, especially in the back of the knees. He really likes the fact that no matter where you come from, who you are, male or female, everyone is in the same class together doing their best.

Ryan went to teacher training in Palm Desert, California, spring of 2009. He teaches Bikram yoga to “give back” what it has done for him. He especially enjoys teaching when everyone moves together, feeling the rhythm and consistency of the group which creates a good energy in the room.

Outside of the yoga studio Ryan is raising a family. He also owns and teaches 25 classes a week at his dance studio: Studio @ - Ryan’s American Dance. www.ryansamericandance.com

Message to you the student:

“GO! Don’t hesitate to get into the posture. Don’t worry, your body will find the right way.”

Carly Frederick

Carly attended and graduated teacher training in the fall of 2011.  She is a Fresno native who previously pursued a professional ballet career in Seattle, Nashville and Portland. After retiring from her ballet career, she settled in Portland and studied horticulture, becoming involved in farms and nurseries. In 2006, Carly returned to Fresno to be closer to her family and discovered Bikram yoga. After practicing for four years at Blue Moon she was inspired and encouraged to become an instructor. Carly also teaches ballet and performs with Shirley Winter's Ballet School. When Carly is not at the studio she enjoys surfing, hiking and sunshine.

Lori Logan

My first Bikram yoga class was here, in San Luis Obispo, September 2004. I decided to try this yoga upon the insistence of a good friend. The absolute challenge and exhilaration I felt from it all is what kept me coming back to class, and the requirement was to focus clearly. I love Bikram yoga because it has enhanced my overall well-being and coping skills for life. This yoga has helped me overcome physical obstacles, including a back issue that is now resolved, and has enabled me to develop and maintain super good health.

I attended teacher training in Acapulco, Mexico spring of 2008. I enjoy teaching Bikram yoga to see the progress and breakthroughs students achieve with their practice. It’s rewarding to watch students grow to appreciate what I am so enthusiastic about. I love the environment in the room during class, seeing long-time practitioners working alongside new students.

Message to you the student:

“Be as patient as you can with yourself. Be diligent and never judge yourself for what you can’t do.”

Dick Winn

I was introduced to yoga in 2009. Not long after I began practicing yoga I worked with one of the last direct disciples of Paramahansa Yogananda. Two years later I first practiced yoga in heat.

I discovered vitality I had not experienced in some time -- through coordinating breathing with my postures. My mind became more calm. What was most powerful for me was the impact of rhythmic breathing during postures for the entire ninety minutes of class. With my diligent practice I have found inner peace, and healthy lifestyle changes.

I practice almost daily, and through teaching hope to pass along the many benefits of yoga in heat, including the motivation to live a more balanced, peaceful life from the inside out. It is my hope that students will experience a calm presence and joy in a spontaneous and natural way. "When teaching, I like to focus on calm breathing, which in turn helps students reconnect with the power of stillness, and to just be."

Mateo Fresquez

Mateo’s first Bikram yoga class was here in San Luis Obispo, October 2008. He had admired yoga “theoretically” for many years from a safe distance. It wasn’t until a good friend with a regular practice helped him get up the nerve to come to a class. He wasn’t sold on it in the beginning. “It was Hard! But I have to confess that it made me feel good in the days following.” That, along with the fact that everyone at the studio (especially the staff) was so incredibly warm and supportive, kept Mateo coming back to class. “I love Bikram Yoga because it is hard and it feels so great knowing that I just pushed myself to my very limits. And realizing those limits are hardly limits anymore, but markers in my path to growth. Something to carry into other parts of my life! ” Mateo graduated teacher training in the fall of 2011, in Los Angeles. He loves teaching Bikram Yoga because it’s a way to inspire people to inspire themselves… and that’s awesome. Outside of the yoga studio Mateo enjoys surfing, hiking, kayaking, playing music, singing, writing and anything that inspires the creative spirit. “As someone who has grown up with a certain amount of physical limitations and challenges (I have a mild case of Cerebral Palsy) I can say that Bikram Yoga has taught me that the biggest challenge that will ever be asked of you is to Make Up Your Mind. Go for it!!!”
Message to you the student: “Concentrate, Meditate and Breathe. When trying to get your body into the postures it’s easy to forget to keep a focused, controlled breath. Your breath is your base. Once you control your breathing all you can do is advance in your practice.”
The ORIGINAL HOT YOGA! 26 postures, 2 breathing exercises, 90 minutes in a room heated to 105 degrees. You will systematically move fresh oxygenated blood to 100% of your body: every muscle, ligament, tendon, joint, organ is refreshed. 360 degrees. This aids the body in its healing process, restoring all systems to healthy working order just as nature intended.

Bikram Yoga is suitable for all ages and level of ability. No experienced required. All you have to do is try your best to receive the benefits. Every body can benefit from a regular yoga practice. Don't delay — your body and your mind will love it.
